Hachette UK

250 Years of Publishing

For nearly 250 years Hachette UK has been publishing books that have shaped, shocked, delighted and terrified the world. Our company timeline plots the genesis of every imprint within the group alongside the ground breaking books and award winning authors that they have brought to the world including Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita, J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, Goscinny & Uderzo’s Asterix & Obelix, Malala Yousafzai’s I am Malala.

We also included some defining moments in the company’s history such as the notorious burning of Lord Byron’s scandalous memoirs.
